I've never even heard of anyone "breaking up" with their church before. Most people just stop going and let the church disintegrate without letting them know why. I think that's very polite of you! Good luck!

How unfortunate. And yes, polite of you. I don't think I would let them know why if it was me -- unless you really want them to reach out to you now. I'm not one for organized religion anyway, unless its visiting my mom's church (she's the pastor).

That really sucks. Too bad you don't live in the NYC area, b/c that was what impressed me about my church right off -- the welcoming atmosphere. The first day I attended, just over a year ago, I went alone, b/c Jeff thought the UU church was a cult, and a group of older ladies all but dragged me down for coffee hour after the service. I don't think I would have gone back a 2nd time if it hadn't been for them. They don't even remember me now, and it hardly matters, but they sure knew how to spot a first-timer and make her feel welcome. Keep looking. You'll find the right church.
