I believe there is always a "friendship last straw" beyond which you know in your heart it just cannot work. Years ago a really fun party-time girlfriend phoned me up at 3 AM insisting we head out for the night...when I said no, I had work the next morning, she called me an old lady and not a real friend, and hung up. Yuh, no longer a friendship, I realized, as I never heard from her again, yet wistfully wondered what became of her. You have to know you were always honestly yourself; after that, you gently, with love, let it go. Hope this helps.
