Hey, did anyone else get a message like this through their Diaryland email address yesterday? I don't know what to think about it:
Please accept my apologies for this rather sudden and unexpected message.
I am Mr. Makoto Yoshihara, an editor working for Kosaido Publishing Co, a major publishing company in Japan.
I am sending this email to request your permission to include parts of your journal (that is presently available to the public through your website) in a book we are currently compiling. The provisional title of the book is: "Journals of Thirty Americans" Planned publishing date is the end of December 2002.
Format: A5 size, black and white (Planned)
Descriptions of the book :
The book will contain journal entries written by 30 Americans with a variety of backgrounds and lifestyles. Through it, readers will be able to learn what ordinary life is like for people in the U.S.A. Our editorial staff will choose a portion of the journal covering a period of up to three or four days for each of the 30 contributors. A Japanese translation of your journal entries will be included in the book together with the original English. The book is designed for Japanese readers who want to learn more about the ordinary lives of Americans while providing them with a chance to get acquainted with commonly used English expressions.

Terms and conditions of use:
We will use your journal only in the book "Journals of Thirty Americans" and nowhere else. We will only use the text section. We will not use photographs or illustrations. Kosaido Publishing Co. shall reserve the copyrights to the Japanese text to be included in the Book. Your e-mail address and website address will not be included in the Book unless otherwise requested by you. There will be no payment, or remuneration whatsoever. Upon completion of this book, we will send you two complimentary copies. If the terms and conditions for the use of parts of your journal described above are acceptable to you, please complete the form (Please provide only that information which you are happy for us to transfer to the Book) and add $B!H(BI accept" under the form and return it to us by November 24.
